A new family medical clinic is providing a wide range of services for clients, ensuring that they can stay in Selah to receive treatment, rather than having to travel.

Best Practices Medical Clinic owners Greg and Janis Swart informed Selah City Council members about the services the clinic offers during a virtual March 23, 2021 meeting.

“I was born and raised here in Selah, and have quite a passion for Selah and the community,” Janis said. “My dad ran the Wenas Feed Store here in Selah for 35 years.”

Best Practices has been serving Yakima at its 14th Avenue location for many years, but the Swarts opened their Selah clinic – at 715 N. Park Drive – last winter. It offers family medical services, as well as urgent care, on-site x-rays and lab testing. New patients and walk-ins are accepted.

“We’re working on trying to get the word out and let people know we’re here, and we appreciate the opportunity to share this with you guys tonight.” Janis said. “We’d be happy to give people tours. We really just want to share our heart in caring for Selah.”

Mayor Sherry Raymond asked if business has been picking up at the Selah clinic.

“Yes, word is getting out,” Janis said. “I printed out some flyers I’m going to bring down, and see if I can pass around.”

City Administrator Donald Wayman asked which types of insurance the clinic accepts.

“We take all commercial insurances,” Greg said. “We also take all Medicaid plans. We’re in the process of credentialing with every company. It’s quite a long process, but we will be taking all Medicaid, Coordinated Care, Molina, Medicare, and metadata insurance programs.”

Since Best Practices is an urgent care clinic that can provide services to anybody, the business is working to be able to accept all insurance options they encounter, Greg said.

“It’s more than a walk-in,” Greg said. “It’s more of an urgent care-plus, if you will, because we have those extra services. We feel blessed to be able to provide those services to Selah, so people don’t have to head out of Selah for a sniffle or a stitch.”

Raymond said she expects the clinic to get a boost as summer draws near.

“With sports picking up, you could be getting busy,” Raymond said.
